Dental implants are used replace lost or missing teeth. The technique involves replacing a missing tooth with an implant that is placed in the mouth into which the replacement tooth or crown is fixed solidly in place. We work with world leading manufacturer Nobel Biocare (www.nobelbiocare.com).
Once a tooth is lost the bone that holds it in starts to shrink. If this lost bone needs to be reconstructed then a technique known as guided bone regeneration can be used to regain this lost bone. Materials such as Bio-Oss and Bio-Gide (www.geistlich.co.uk) or similar are used.
To prevent this bone loss after extraction these materials can be used straight away to maintain the bone and improve the situation for future dentures, bridges or implants.
Gum Disease Treatment
Gum disease is a silent (painless) disease whose only symptom may be bleeding gums and/or bad breath. There has been recent evidence to suggest a link between the bacteria associated with gum disease both in cardiovascular (heart) disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Long term without treatment gum disease can lead to a more serious dental problem referred to as Periodontal disease. This has more serious consequences such as gums shrinking back from teeth and can even lead to the loss of teeth.
Early treatment and regular maintenance of the gums by a dental health professional are essential to prevent these issues.
Our children’s health is always our priority and their dental health is no different. Preventing any problems with good habits starts early along with measures such as fissure sealing, helps ensure our kid’s healthy smiles stay with them as they grow. So regular check ups for our kids is essential to prevent and spot anything early so you don’t have any late night wake ups with a toothache.
White fillings are an excellent means of filling those holes in your teeth where you want the filling to match your smile and colour of your teeth. Some of our patients also now choose to have white fillings even where they are not visible.
Metal fillings are an excellent means of filling theses holes in your back teeth where you are not worried about the filling matching the colour of your teeth.
Tooth whitening is an excellent gentle way to improve the colour of your teeth and freshen your smile and appearance.
Tooth whitening is used in healthy mouths to whiten the teeth and is also used prior to smile improvements (I.E. before placing front fillings, crowns and veneers) so that the new dental work matches your new fresher whiter smile.
Crowns are used to fully cover a tooth if it is badly broken or requires significant build up. They are long lasting and are fixed in place in the mouth.
Various materials can be used depending on your needs.
Bridges are used to replace lost or missing teeth. They are generally fixed to the teeth either side of a gap and are fixed in place in the mouth. Various materials and techniques can be used depending on your needs.
Veneers are used to improve the colour, shape and position of the front teeth. They can be made in the surgery using white filling material for minor imperfections or more usually made from specially constructed porcelain that is glued into place.
Dentures are used to replace lost or missing teeth. A good set of dentures can help you speak, eat and even improve your smile. We can make either a partial denture when only some teeth are missing or full dentures when all the teeth are missing. They can be made from plastic or a combination of metal and plastic.
Dentures and Dental Implants
Sometimes dentures can feel not part of you and they can be uncomfortable due to the shrinkage of your gums over the years. This most commonly happens with a full lower denture. By placing a number of implants in the mouth we can use them to hold a denture more securely in place with press studs in the implants and denture. This means you can click your denture into place and improve your day to day life.
Invisalign uses a series of clear removable aligners to straighten your teeth without wires or brackets. It is almost unnoticeable and means you can continue to clean your teeth as there are no metal brackets or wires attached to your teeth. www.invisalign.com
Root canal is used to save a tooth when the nerve has become infected. Root canal is a very effective way of removing the pain you may have and keeping a tooth. Infection generally happens when bacteria have gotten into the nerve of the tooth. This can happen due to a number of reasons most generally because of decay, crack or deep filling/crown in a tooth.
When we are no longer able to save a tooth unfortunately it may be needed to be removed. We do this as gently and as pain free as possible to make the whole process as easy as possible for our patients. We are also able to check the INR levels of patients who take Warfarin in surgery prior to treatment. We use the Coagucheck (www.coagucheck.com) from Roche to provide a quick and accurate measurement of your belleding time to ensure your safety prior to treatment.
